A Welcome to the 2026/27 Season

Thomas Simpson

Everything you need to know as we get the 2026/27 season underway

Hello everyone

As the 2026/27 season gets underway, I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome everyone back to Staines Hockey Club — and to say a particular hello to those joining us for the first time.

There’s quite a bit to cover as we start the new season, so please take a few minutes to read through the updates below — including some important ways you can support the Club this year.

Training is now underway, our first league fixtures are beginning (The L4 have already started), and the Club is quickly getting back into the rhythm of a new season.

We have five men’s teams, four ladies’ teams and junior teams running from U8s through to U18s, so there is plenty of hockey taking place across the Club this season.

The Club Needs Volunteers

Staines Hockey Club depends on volunteers to make everything we do possible, and this season we urgently need more people to get involved.

We have lost some of the volunteers who have supported the Club in previous seasons, and there are now a number of areas where extra help is particularly important.

Our junior section is one of those areas. Junior players are the future of Staines Hockey Club, and with teams running from U8s through to U18s we need more people to help support sessions, organise activity, coordinate the section and help create the best possible experience for our younger players and their families.

Umpiring is another area where we would love to see more people get involved. The Club can support anyone interested in learning, including help with the equipment they need, and we are fortunate to have a number of experienced and high-level umpires within Staines who can offer coaching, guidance and support as people develop.

Beyond our junior section and umpiring, there are also plenty of ways to support the wider Club, from coaching and team administration to events, communications, club admin, clubhouse tasks and the many other jobs that help keep Staines HC running.

You do not need to take on a committee role or make a huge commitment. Regular help is invaluable, but so is taking responsibility for one task, helping with one event or offering a little time in an area that suits you.

If you can help this season, please get in touch with a member of the Committee. Even a small amount of time can make a real difference.

Meet the Committee

The Club is run by a team of volunteers covering different areas of Staines HC, and we want members to know who they can speak to if they have a question, an idea or would like to get involved.

President — Kerry Wainwright
Chairperson — Linda McCormack
Vice Chairperson — Alex Sherman
Secretary — Tom Simpson
Treasurer — Carolyne Lee
Colts Director — Dayalanthi Lynch
Men’s Club Captains — Jack Hayes and Ant Knight
Ladies’ Club Captains — Jo Ive and Oli Staples
Umpire Coordinator — Vicky O’Brien
SALSAL Representatives— Jack Hayes, Robbie Watson and Bob Cooke
Fundraising Secretary — Em Sukphandee
Membership Secretary — Penny Harvey

Please do speak to us around the Club or get in touch if there is something you would like to raise. One of our priorities this season is to improve communication between the Committee and our members, so we want it to be easier to know who to approach and to hear what is happening across the Club.

Membership for 2026/27

Thank you to everyone who has already paid or set up instalments for membership — it is much appreciated.

If you have not yet done so, please make sure your membership payment has been made or your direct debit set up by 30 September 2026, so that your team captain can consider you for selection.

Any junior playing adult hockey should purchase the Adult (Concession) product and add the Junior Supplement if applicable.

If you have any questions, or individual circumstances you would like considered, please contact Penny directly at membership@staineshockeyclub.com.

Introduce a Player Incentive

This season we’ve introduced a new Introduce a Player incentive for current paid-up members.

If you refer a new player to Staines, you’ll receive £30 back on your membership once they have joined and both your membership and theirs have been paid in full.

So whether it’s someone getting back into hockey, looking for a new club or thinking about picking up a stick for the first time, encourage them to come down and give Staines a try.

Full details are available in our Introduce a Player article.

Watch Staines from Anywhere

We’re also setting up a new camera system which will allow us to live stream most home games through YouTube.

We hope this will make it easier for members, friends, family and former players to follow Staines when they cannot be there in person.

More details on how to watch will follow once everything is up and running.

Social Calendar

Our 2026/27 social calendar is now live, with events planned throughout the season and plenty of opportunities to get together away from the pitch.

You can find the full list of dates and details in our Social Calendar article, with further information to follow as each event gets closer.

As ever, the Club is at its best when people get involved — whether that is playing, coaching, umpiring, volunteering, supporting from the sidelines or simply coming down for a drink and a catch-up after the games.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time and energy to Staines Hockey Club. I’m looking forward to seeing the clubhouse busy again and to another enjoyable season together.
