Lets not play a 0-0 again!

Score: 4-3 (W)
Goals: Alex Betts (2), Matt Wells, Ben Floyd

Clash of the titans (take 2) took place on Saturday, except this time Woking didn’t fancy a late 5:30pm push back under the floodlights after last years thrilling 0-0 extravaganza!

After last weeks win against Slough, Staines were looking to rack up more points to continue their unbeaten start to the season. The game started well with Staines dictating play and having majority of the possession. This lead to an early goal created by some nice build up play and a tidy finish from Alex Betts. Staines continued to put Woking under pressure creating a handful of chances but unfortunately not taking full advantage. With Staines pressing for a second Woking found themselves Turing over possession and breaking away down the other end to equalise, making it 1-1. Staines continues to apply pressure leasing to a goal from Matt Wells. Soon after this the game got a bit frantic and Staines took the foot off the peddle and found themselves a man down but coped well during this period and saw out any Woking attack. This left the score 2-1 to Staines at HT.

The start second half didn’t go as planned as Woking found themselves creating some decent chances and got themselves back in the game with one of their players finding themselves unmarked in the D and slotting the ball away into an open goal. From this point on Staines found themselves struggling to take control of the game, making it even harder for themselves after going down to 8 men at one point in the second half (no thanks to some dubious umpiring decisions!). Strangely enough though, Staines started to take control back of the game with less men on the pitch and grabbed a goal from a lovely worked goal coming from a short corner. After going back to 11 men Staines went on to score another straight after with the front three of Laszlo, Wellsy and Alex combining nicely for the fourth goal finished off by Alex for his second of the match. You would think that would have been it, but Staines made it hard for themselves and conceded late on with 2 mins to go but held on for the 4-3 win.

Lots to learn from this match, nevertheless another 3 points bagged and Staines will be looking for another win against Maidenhead this weekend.
